"With Maelstrom Protocol’s subtly malevolent admix of DIY ditties, Full Crumb insinuate themselves into Fall Break Records’ growing roster. Inveterate stalwarts of the English indie underworld’s dimmer recesses, the band’s emergence on the Athens GA based label represents a typically spurious development – and one that speaks to the band's willingness for spreading rapture and disquiet wherever they can.

Maelstrom Protocol is the band’s sixth album and traverses lo-fi post-punk, kraut-psych, and experimental pop, opening with the irrepressible beat-box driven “Vanity Case” before promptly collapsing in a heap at the gates of the sleepy “Cactus Factory”. The pace then picks up with a purposeful, proto-kraut shite-gaze number, “By Default and Design” – spiced liberally with infusions of shortwave radio and swirling phase guitar. Other highlights include the spastic bombastic “Chrome Bisons”, the sickened syncopation of “Instructions From a Severed Head”, and the surly, perverse ethereality of closing marathon groove workout, “Free Fall Viaduct”.

Maelstrom Protocol will be released on December 9th 2014 as a short run of cassettes in numbered editions with hand-rendered artwork for each copy. Given Full Crumb’s continual and self-confessedly misplaced loyalty to multi-tracking their songs on Tascam tape recorders, this choice of format has nothing to do with a hipsterish embrace of the cute mummified technology of yesteryear and everything to do with the band’s intransigent Luddite mindset. Which is more damning? You the listener must decide."

Weaving together strands of neo shite-gaze, dark ambient turntablism and ornery, downhome crud-step, Full Crumb create a crude hessian cowl to cloak the hideous visage of existential dread that confronts an entire generation. And how! But first, let us dispel once and for all the many pernicious rumours that have sprung up around the band relating to charges of wholesale plagiarism and petty musical larceny. For whilst it is true that they have fallen foul of the many formalities and protocols adhered to by indie pop scenesters, their consciences remain conspicuously free from all signs of taint and blemish.

Quite why remains a mystery - to those on the outside. But to insiders the answer is only too obvious. It can be heard in every nuance of the band’s sound – whether in the strident cacophony of their more rousing moments, or in the hushed intimacy of songs such as Languishing Bile, Tundra Snails or the unforgettable crowd pleaser, Skype Gurn (Zippos aloft, y’all).

Each track of Maelstrom Protocol sounds meticulously considered and contributes toward an album that easily sails beyond the scope of the little jokes hung deliberately around it. Easily one of my favorite releases from last year"- Decoder Magazine

"This record is so rich with ideas and artistry that I don’t really know how to do it justice in writing. Every single song is different and offers something unique, and yet Maelstrom Protocol inescapably feels like a cohesive record. Full Crumb have done something remarkably rare, especially in today’s artistic climate, oversaturated as it is with a million bedroom recording projects that all, from even a few feet back, sound the same...Maelstrom Protocol is one of the most vibrant and exciting records I’ve heard in ages."
- Michael Avishay, Lo-Pie

"this tape is a winner... Lo-fi indie meets experimental pop, and the result is a carefully crafted album that would fit nicely on record shelves next to releases by The Wedding Present, Inspiral Carpets, or early Blur"- Cassette Gods

"it really is the sort of thing that is best experienced without too much preface and pondered about by the listener for days afterwards during the likely sessions of re-listening"

Track Name: Vanity Case
Visions of glee in concrete-grey
Ravished and ready to display
Garnished with freshly cut dismay
Valid for one more August day
Laughing at scenes of sweet decay
Lacking in every single way
Drizzle is coursing through your veins
Magic will make you sad and vane
Visions – good visions
Track Name: Cactus Factory
The cactus factory is closed
So sweep the dusty road
I straddle various zones
And govern from your home
We stand on golden sands
And no-one sold our glands
Track Name: By Design and Default
Travel alone and leave subtle clues
No-one will ever catch up with you
Don’t look to me ‘cos I’m running too
By default or design
I couldn’t say
That distinction means less and less today
That distinction means much less every day
Track Name: Same Day Return
There are truths that we can’t tell
Truths we stifle – truths we gag
Like the love that you once felt
They won’t quite die
They’ll come back
Single or same day return
It seems we’ll never learn
Single or same day return
We’ll crash and we might well burn
There are truths that we turn from
Truths we bury late at night
Like a dog that was once kicked
They might stay quiet
They may bite
Track Name: Chrome Bisons
Chrome bisons – misfiring
It’s like ice
Keeping us unhealthy and unwise
Chrome bisons
Old wiring
Choose your vice
Do you want to be here at sunrise?
Track Name: Sealed with a Loving Kiss
Here’s another a joke you can tell
I think it might go down quite well
With your friends and family in hell
Track Name: Instructions From a Severed Head
I don’t know what you could’ve said
But it made me lose my thread
Oh yeah
Instructions from a severed head
The wisdom of any empty bed
Oh yeah
Just look at all the ways you bled
Are you someone else instead?
Oh yeah
Instructions from a severed head
You know love clots, hate spreads
Oh yeah
