about

Prolific New York undergrounders Arklight take respite from the bustling city and offer up a batch of late-night atmospheric folk and outsider country pop. Like a garage band's "Cowboy in Sweden" or a bedroom "Music From the Big Pink", "Vows" finds Arklight in a reflective mood, utilizing a kitchen sink approach- bits of keyboard, cello and layered vocals find their way into the mix expanding their standard palette of guitars and drums. Denser lyrically than any previous Arklight release, "Vows" strives to create a dreamlike world of bad relationships, economic hardship and pre-apocalyptic landscape.

"I think the Silver Jews comparisons are the most apt – there’s a dusty Nashville-ness that pervades this tape, as if the floor of the recording space was perpetually covered in sawdust and peanut shells. And it all works...Vows is a keeper, that's my solid promise to you"- Cassette Gods

"'Vows' is a warm collection of psychedelic slacker folk that sounds like it was as fun to make as it is to listen to. detached, calvin johnston-esque vocals take the listener down strange lyrical paths at the pace of snare, tambourines, and reverby acoustic guitars. weird, whimsical organ riffs and occasional echoey guitar solos ensure that the journey is not so straight-forward. classic lofi vibes, another good one from FBR."- Modern Folk Music of America

"I really hear some of the great songwriting/melody tendencies of Peter and Graeme Jefferies of the Cake Kitchen."- Bandcamp Snoop
